You can move the charcoal cannister to the rear of the car, if you don't want it in the engine bay. I'd also put a one way valve in it to negate the boost effect on it.
I also know that some cars that come out with cannisters can get away with out one legally as they are no longer available new through the dealer, with the theory being the impossibility to find one in good condition. Many Torana owners use this excuse as they can't buy new cannisters from Holden.
Personally, I'd have a one way vent in the fuel cap.
