Yeh mine sits just under half, takes ages to get there if the car is stationary the hole time, but soon as I take it for a drive it gets up to operating temp pretty quick.

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open. It probably doesnt go over half way at idle because this is where your fan is kicking in???

Ive found with a GZE with no thermostat, it will as darola said stay in cold mode, gauge hardly moves and even after driving for ages, pull up at lights and it will idle higher.

From memory its the same as the ge thermostat, they dont vary in size much.
