If you spend alot of time lanching your car, the tourqe in the engine can twist the chassis and body over time and weaken or break spot welds. I'll be putting a 1G-GTE in to my car and I'll be welding up all the seams before it goes in. Some engineers like to see this done to pass as well.
I'm guessing that increasing overall performance of the car (suspension bigger wheels etc.) would also adversly effect the standard fixing points of the steering suspension as one can corner harder thus placing more stress on them. I haven't heard of anyone beefing up steering components or mounts however.
