i looked at the 4A-GE 20valve silvertop into RA28 conversion a fair while back.... and basically passed up on the idea after the mounting costs were taken into consideration.
Even if you CAN get the motor cheap, there are a couple of expensive things that will need doing:
# Dizzy - anthony kellam has a kit which converts to DLI, but then you need coil packs
# Water - all the outlets are at the rear, need to move them
# Intake - need to have it converted to RWD
# Engine mounting - engine mounts, crossmember, gbox x-member, tailshaft etc
# EFI fuel setup - surge tank, lift and HP pumps
# Thermofan
# EFi wiring
# Exhaust
So even if the motor IS cheap, you have at LEAST $1500 worth of shit to do AFTER you buy the motor! And then you will really only have performance a "little" better than Joel's RA23, which co-incidentally gets around 55rwKW and does a 17sec 1/4mile.
I'm getting around the same level of performance as his 4a-ge powered RA23 with my late 18R-GU (11111-88253 head) powered RA28..... and that conversion cost me all of..... $700! ENTIRELY!
