Hi Byatch, I have had an RA28 engineered with a 1G-GTE, no seam welding required. Ok I live in Canberra, but the standards used in the ACT are lifted from NSW, so the engineer only required a disc brake up grade (MX63 cals.RT132 struts, RA60 disks). I have a good friend who did the same mods to his TA23 Celica, he lives in NSW. But before starting any conversion, talk to an engineer. Their advice is free, but the engineering report/ certificate is what you pay for.
good luck with the conversion, Chuck.
