I've just bought a neat little 1988 Celica (Don't like the colour, but I'll fix that in time). The first thing I want to do is get a working stereo in it.

It has a dodgy old replacement stereo which doesn't work... The face is too large so it's jutting out, it's sitting in there loose, and whoever put it in just soldered the wires then bound them with electrical tape.

The new stereo I'll get off a mate, he's just replaced his (15 month) old one with a spiffy new model. Dimensions are just right, but I can't rememeber the manufacturer/model offhand.
This will be a first time auto-electrics job for me. I'd like to fix all the wires into a harness to make life easier, then I can just plug in the new unit. But I need to know a few things first, since the simple owners manual is completely lacking in any useful information.

- Does anyone have wiring diagrams for the 4th Gen models? I can only find 5th Gen and later ones.

- Are there any instructions available for removing the stereo 'rack' from the console? I'd like to do a proper job of it and I don't want to take the whole dash apart only to find that I didn't really have to.
(Apparently the 5th Gen Celicas provide access to the mounting screws under the gear stick panel. Is it the same for 4th Gen?)

- I've heard mention of factory amplifiers creating a problem for the power antenna (using the same wire?). I don't know which models that applies to though... If some 4th Gen models had that amp, how can I find out?

- Lastly, I have no clue why the current unit doesn't work (it just completely fails to power-up). It could be the unit itself, hopefully, or it could be another electrical problem. Any tips on tracking it down? Common faults?
