i think that you'll find the wiper motor is not behind the fire wall but in the rear passenger side corner of the engine bay behind the strut tower, first try to take off the motor, and then see if it works, if it does then take the wipper mechanism out (it should come out through the holes under the windscreen, where the black mesh stuff is) when the mechanism is out check it all out, if its good then attack it with a can of wd40 or similar.
