Ah, but the whole point of doing it oneself is so that one -learns- how to do these things. That's what makes it fun. Why throw money at an auto electrician when with a little research and preparation it should be possible to do just as professional a job at home.
And yeah, if it's got an amp I want to wire it through that. Where's your amp located Draza? I've read that it's 'hidden' somewhere, which I take to mean that it's not where I'm going to expect it (i.e. under the seats). Is it tucked in behind the dash maybe?
Also, was your new unit one of those types with two 'remote on' connections, if so did you set it up so that the antenna only pops out when the radio is turned on and not whenever the amp is in use?
