The 22R needs more than a cam to make it breathe properly. The cylinder head is actually designed to be restrictive to make good torque at low rpm. If you want to move the peak torque to higher rpm, you need to do a lot of head work. Basically, it's not worth the effort. If you're in North America and want a cheap power-up, I'd recommend the 20R - they're 200cc smaller than the 22R, but the cylinder head flows twice as good so they have a much better potential for performance applications.
All R series transmissions are interchangeable.
