best idea is to run a new power wire from the battery to a new fuse and relay box for the big things like fan and lights. gauges do not use much power so you could hook them up to either ignition power or acc power, or you could use ign or acc power to activate a relay, so you aren't putting extra load on those fuses.

i think it's always better to leave the stock wiring as it is, and any extra bits get put onto their own circuits. that minimises the chance of overloading wires and fuses as your car gets 'feature creep'
