Well, think about it...
a FWD car has its engine East/West Technically called (Transversly Mounted)
The MR2 although the engine is at the back, is still East/West

there is a good website on the swap and what gearboxes to use.

Type "3SGTE ST162" or somthing in Google.

But yea, the MR2 box would be the strongest for the power ur talking.
I couldn't imagine a FWD box lasting too long under what... almost Double the power it was designed for.
