yup! the 18RG would be an enhancement !

FWIW, my g/friends father (farmer from NSW New England area) stuffed an 18RG into a mazda 626 that got very intimate with a tree. Biggest problems he had were fabricating mounts for the engine (to suit mazda cross member), air-con compressor and exhaust system (modded to suit the madza underbelly). linkages for throttle/clutch were only minor issues. And the mazda e/bay is smaller than RA23/28/40.

toyota-to-toyota e/swap will be a walk in the park..

It took years of abuse for a top-end rattle to appear and it was still effortlessly driving around the New England ranges with 2 adults+rottie when sold at clearing sale.
