current sp1 does detect invalid cd keys.. you just have to change it to a non-blacklisted one before you install it..
stienberg tried this sort of copy protection as such a couple of years ago saying that it would take a group of crackers 40 years to figure out and crack the program. DOD did it in 2 hours by removing the parts of the program which need to access the keys. the way that microsoft programs is sloppy to say the least so it wont take longer than a few days to have a freshly cracked version ready to download.
i bought xp but still use the cracked version because of microsofts stupid registration headache.
