Most radiator shops do a free colour dye test to check for combustion gasses in the radiator, this is the quickest cheapest way to find out if it is the head gasket. If it is and you can't afford to repair or replace it at the moment, get a bottle of "Bars Leaks", and follow the intructions.
I once ran a 6 cylinder Falcon motor with a blown head gasket on that stuff for another 6 months without drama. Naturally, if the blown head gasket is too far past it, nothing will help you, aside from repair where you will be looking at a bill of over $300.
