Used on turbo cars to build boost earlier, it allows unburnt fuel to be dumped into the exhast manifold where it ignites outside the combustion chamber to spin up the turbo, resulting in boost pressure. Yes, rally and some street cars dedicated to motorsport have it, though it causes the exhaust and turbo to shorten their service intervals.
