at any sane speed you will not be generating any significant intake pressure....
the basic difference is in the resonance tuning, and possibly the reduction in intake restriction. having the TBs closer to the head might also increase throttle response.
generally ppl want them because it sounds cool, not for any specific reason heh heh
you can calculate the resonance properties of an intake, taking into account open and closed tubes (well, not closed, but having surfaces causing reflections, ie the plenum) etc etc...
for the average person, it's not going to make much difference. for the racer who needs the extra 2 or 3%, it can be worth it... but usually the extra cost to set it up is not worth the performance gain.. (then again, there is the satisfaction of implementing it)
