Hi, just adding abit of stuff i've heard. I read on the RTA website that you are allowed no more than 26mm wider than the largest optional wheel recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for that vehicle. The outside diameter of the WHEEL & TYRE is to be no more than 15mm larger than the largest optional wheel recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for that vehicle. And the track is to be no more than 25mm larger or smaller than standard. Where this comes into play with that 'PLUS 2 FITMENT' rule, i have no idea. Everybody has different ideas. I am trying to put 18's on my TA22 and everybody i talk to has a different idea of what is legal. Whether this is due to the fact that i live in the ACT and i have been talking to people in both NSW and ACT, i dunno. I have been pulled over with 17's on my car and the police didn't look twice at them. However they were looking for wepons in my car, so i think they may have had some other more important thing to do than just defect my car.(for once). Just look up any info you can find on ADR 24 and you may be able to find what you're after. (www.rta.nsw.gov.au) No not all four stud cars are the same. There are many different four-stud patterns, however most japanese 4 stud cars are the same. I've put my 17's on everything from my TA22, KE38 corolla panelvan, Sigma, Datto 1600, Starion, Sprinter and many more. However Gemini's have their own stupid rare-as stud pattern, and Escorts are different again. Then you have italian fiat's and Alfa's, which i think are different again. Offset is very important. if you just go grab some wheels off a front-wheel-drive Cordia, chances are they will fit on the back of your car, but will hit the front strut. And if you do the oppostie, the rwd wheels on a fwd car will stick out of the guards. But even if you can fit the 'wrong' offset wheels on your car without them hitting the strut or whatever, this is not recommended due to the high strain levels put on your suspension components.
Anyway, i'll let you go, and if anyone knows of a cheapish engineer who'll engineer 18's on a TA22, let me know please!
André
P.S Spacers ARE illegal no-matter what. Having to run spacers usually means you have the wrong offset wheels which will be putting excess strain on your suspension.
