if they are NPT tapered threads, they are not designed to seal without tape. you might be able to get away with threadlocker if it is fuel resistant, but teflon tape would be a good way to start.... there are at least two types of thread tape too.. water and gas. the gas is thicker and usually yellow (or pink?) and water is white... maybe go the gas tape so you can stuff it in there....
as for clamps, get the ones with bolts, not the ones with slots, as the slots cut the rubber...
i can bring some out for ya and give you a hand soonish.. gotta pick up that piston and other things from you, and drop off bits to Michael....
