copper is a completely shit head gasket material unless its o-ringed. how soft and maleable is copper ffs! of course they have a tendancy to blow - what is holding them in place against cyl pressures? you need something to increase the clamping presure around the fire ring and hold them in place...
o ring!
otherwise, penrith toyota has 1.2mm HKS mhg for about $270 (when they have them in stock)
