relays are not pricey, a good narva one will get you back $5.
my TA22 does have a relay for the lights - its pretty antiquated though and a strange config - u can hear it click when u flick to high beams.
if you're not using a relay, and you're fiddling with your switch to make it work - what taplus22 said - you're prolly burning out your switch so get a relay or two in there ASAP - ideally two - one for the lows, the other for the highs. use a standard 4 pin for the lows, 30 to +12v, 85 to ground, 86 to headlight switch (for low beam on) and 87 to the LOW pin on the headlight
similaraly for the highs, use a 5 pin relay (non switching type) with 30 to +12v, 85 to ground, 86 to headlight switch for high beam and 87 to the high/low lights (high beam feed) and 87a to the high beam (inner lights)
also make sure you have really good earths around all your lights.
also remember that 55/60 is ADR approved for your high/low and 60 for high (inners)
