<snip>Will go to a few wreckers next week and see if i can find a clutch fan setup to suit.

Has anyone ever cut the blades down on a standard plastic fan? If so what were the results? I will need to take at least 40mm off each blade.

fwiw, the clutch/viscous hub for my RA40 started to fail (had plenty of drag to shift fan but rotated easily with engine off at high temps) - resulting in overheating under any load (and this is with a copper radiator - just 12months out from a proper flush). Replaced the hub and is now holding temps in brisbane heat.

i think that the fan performance is so closely linked to hub performance (e.g. if either begins to fail, cooling performance suffers significantly), that if you removed so much blade length, you wont shift enough air - and temps under load or low-road-speed will rise significantly. You might also not have enough drag on the hub for it to lockup properely,

i think a bunch of thermos would suit you better - several small 10-12" blowing thru, and the larger 14" inside mounted in a custom shroud. Can you take a few pics of the shroud before/after mounting?
