Here's a little more background.... Originally installed the 1JZ-GTE (5-speed) into 1987 Supra (7MGTE/5-speed). Running for several weeks and then bought a 1990 Canadian model Supra (7MGTE/auto). Removed 1JZ and 5-speed tranny from 1987 Supra and installed into 1990. Removed clutch pedal, master cylinder, etc and installed into the 1990. Making wiring changes in the engine bay, but without making ANY wiring changes at the ECU/dash, tried to start the engine and the ECU started smoking (burned some resisitors/board, etc). I hadn't connected any type of neutral start switch or whatever to the clutch, did not move any dash-side wires around, even though now using (or attempting to use) the 1JZ-GTE 5-speed ECU in a car that was originally equipped with an automatic. The engine turned over, but would not start (no fuel, no spark?). I was suprised that it even turned over, since I thought we'd have to by-pass the neutral-start switch somehow. That's how it got blown up.... OKAY...so now here's the present situation. I have a replacement ECU, from a JZA70 Supra....automatic! I couldn't find a 5-speed ECU. Originally, I was gonna use a JZX81/90 ECU, since they seem plentiful/cheap, 'cause everyone's used/using JZA70 ECUs for their swaps, but couldn't find any diagrams. I have not really looked at the wiring diagrams yet, but believe that there's some connection that would've had to move, going from 5-speed to auto, that we overlooked (that caused the short)....which may not even be a factor now, since I'd be using the 1JZ-auto ECU. OR, maybe when pulling the harness back through the firewall, I must stripped/grounded some other wire that caused a short. I will recheck all the wiring, before connecting this ECU, but still need to know if there are any dash-side changes that I need to make, or should it be plug-n-play now??
