VHS became the standard over beta for video systems even though it was poorer. There are a lot of plans to improve GSM to get it ready for 3G mobiles. Anyways I won't crap on about the real boring technical stuff. CDMA is currently the better technology but in the end its the services you are paying for so decide that way.
