Interesting things coronas,

So many different bloody variations. I just bought a RT142 Corona, which has discs on the front and drums on the back. It also has a solid rear axle. It too is a CSi. Interestingly enough, from what I have seen, Corona Avante's typically have discs on the back, and engines vary between the 2S-C and the bigger 22RE. Most of the Avantes have the solid axle Borg Warner diff, but there is a rarer IRS version of the Avante (much later models I think, it too had LSD I think). You sure yours has an LSD?

If you wanted discs on the back, you could go to the wreckers and take out the whole rear end of an Avante. It would probably be solid axle but the difference between it and IRS depends on what kind of driving your doing, it should be fine. It can also be cheaply had...for example, I scored a shitload of bits for $350:

Bonnet - no dings or scratches or rust
Entire Rear end complete from Avante
22RE minus head, though the block and pistons have been weather exposed, I'm after the crankshaft in particular...
5 celica style mags...
Fuel tank & Muffler
W57 Gearbox
Entire Velour interior for Corona Avante (yup, I stripped it bare)
2x Tilt steering columns

Not sure if my wrecker are nice or just plain dumb...the gearbox can be sold if needed...

Getting back to the post, brakes are easily upgraded...celica discs should fit the front as said above, haven't tried it but I can't imagine why not...

And as for the engine, unless you can rebuild it yourself profficiently, as the guys have already said, you may be much better off getting a S/H engine...make sure you get it checked out by someone who knows though...

I dont know of cost for springs and shockers but when I changed the springs and shockers on my celica (Kings and Monroe GT's), I was roughly up for the same sort of money Norbie quoted. If celica and supra are pretty close, the corona shouldn't be any more expensive than that...

Sorry bout the huge post...I get carried away Very Happy ...

Cheers,

Ben
