Astro - 2tg's didnt come to australia either - in factory cars - but we still got em - im sure the states boys could get them too if they wanted to use them Smile

As for the 2t rebuild - Ive already done what your looking to do - starting from a 2tb Block ( they have a higher compression ratio than a stocker 2t )

what you'll need to do is first - change the carby - twin or single 45dcoe weber would be a good start ( i used a single with a redline 2t manifold + weber throttle cable setup ) the stock downdraft setup is shit - plain and simple .. The sidedraft delivers alot of fuel - and sound absoulutely beautiful in full sing - but you have to get it tuned RIGHT to work right

if you cant afford to go side draft , a 32/36 downdraft weber is your next best bet - they are found on 2 litre escorts ( mk 2 models - late 70's and 2 litlre cortinas )
Adaptors for these are cheap - and jets/rebuild kits are plentiful ..

Next - look at porting/polishing/rebuilding your head to give it a little better flow - 2t heads are already a very good flowing crossflow setup - so they are a good start ( rumour has it they flow BETTER than the 2tg head ) * see below for sites for the parts needed if you want top notch stuff *

Upgrade your valves and valve springs at the same time - and look at getting the valve seats done as well - so you can safely run high octane fuels like optimax/bp ultimate with no issues .

A decent set of high compression pistons are next in order - and get the block checked out to see if it needs a rebore - this is the most major part of the rebuild and probably the most costly -but if you want power from the 2t - you have to up the compression from economode.

You could also use a 3t crank and pistons to stroke the 2t out to 1.8 litres - OR start with a 3t block from a t18 as the basis for your rebuild - they look identical - and fit into the celica with minimal fuss

Cam profiles are a choice youll have to make .. The one i had in mine was meant to be able to push the 2t motor in excess of 180 Hp at the flywheel - and after checking - outside of a full on race cam - the one i had was about as hot as you could get . I still have the specs for it somewhere - or ask Jezz on this list to photocopy them for you - he has the car now + all the paperwork for the cam ..

I also found out in my first dyno run that if the weber isnt tuned in to suit the cam profile AND you havent got your distributer matched also to the cam profile - that the car will Never run right and yeild disappointing figures.

If you decide the weber/cam path MAKE SURE you get the distributor rebalanced and remapped to suit the cam - or else you might as well just pour your fuel down the drain - Without the right spark to match the fuel feed and duration , the car will be a pig..

Dial it in correctly and Hold onto your hats !

Overall - to build the motor i had - cost close to 3 grand all up - though that didnt include tuning it in and working out the dizzy..

For your parts to build a hottie 2t/3t look here ( they are amercan sites ):

Dont doubt the 2t - alot do - but with money put into it - it can and HAS proven itself to better its twin cam brother

look at your budget- see what you want to spend - then choose the path .
You may find a 2tg swap to be cheaper - but if you want it to be a REALc sleeper - theres only one way - thats an arse kicking 2t to be proud of !
