faulty sensor...??? (Engine temp, Air intake temp, etc. one of those little buggers possibly).
Check your engine error codes... it will have recorded a fault from one of these sensors to ECU memory, (though not a serious enough error to fulltime activate the orange engine warning lamp). Then you can go an check the outputs from that sensor to make sure they are delivering the correct inputs for the ECU.
There are a zillion places on the net that tell you how to do this for the Toyota Computer Control System (TCCS).
