Can't remember exactly the range of the Ct20, it's been nearly three years since I ran with one, but think it started getting fun around 2200/2300, and was still pulling strong at 6000, before I changed gear. The car is louder than most at idle and at revs inside the car, however have been told it's not noticably loud outside. The only muffling is a Dynomax Straight Through Stainless Steel Muffler at the rear (also 3" diameter).
I upgraded to the T28 as it's simply a better turbo. I use the car for alot of motorsport, so wanted a turbo that came in relatively early and progressive. The current setup starts around 2100rpmish, and has loads of torque through the 2300-4000+ rev range - I can leave the line at 1800rpm and still get wheel spin (back to an open centre diff at the moment). Yes I still use the stock ECU (both ignition and fuel comps), and have had the AFM recalibrated, but as I said in an earlier thread, am not sure if this was due to the new turbo, or simply a tuning requirement?
For the street, my recommendation to you is still to go with a 2.5" mandrel bent system, paying attention to the dump pipe area for flow and oxy sensor location.
