you can also colour lamps with paint designed to go on light-bulbs and glass - you can buy it from art supplies store - it will eventually fade but only after significant use.
you might have seen those coloured light bulbs at craft markets and hippie shops - same stuff.
It is expensive paint so you could use nearly any translucent paint that dries on a hard surfce (like glass or metal).
