you could do that, but the nylon will need to be changed every so often...
a friend of mine used bronze bushings and stainless steel pins in his KE15 hinges (which never had adjustment  )
boith ways will equire a bit of fairly precise machining (to make sure it all lines up) otherwise it will have just as much slop as a worn one...
