Well such things can, have, and will still be done.
Previously, it was piss easy, just a matter of buying a buggered aussie car, buying the car you wanted, bit of glue, some bog, spraycan, etc.
Now, though, we have an insurance register at last. This means that a little more 'stuff' has to be done when buying a crashed/written off car for its plates. However, if you already have the car you want, and can buy a buggered local one, well, whats to stop it still going down and nobody being any the wiser.
As for buying an ae86, well first of all remember they're over 15 years old, so its really not such a problem to register one. Next, buying a local one, putting a 4ag in it and getting it approved isn't TOO bad, or you can be like a lot of people and just buy the car, shove the engine in and be happy. Just because a car came out with a certain engine in Japan doesn't automatically mean you can stick it in and keep the authorities happy though. Doesn'ty mean squat!
