i recall something about GM timing chains being a cheap alternative to the toyota versions?
i can't find my notes about 18R engine gear at the moment - but maybe a search will .... here it is: search the forums for "18R timing chain", is the link called "6. Re: 2TG - 18RG timing chain guides??

J-TCD19 Toyota 18R Upper, 9/1975-ON 13559-34020
Celicaboy and Shinzui in BNE seem to have replaced chains this year... plus if you keep head on and only remove timing cover (tho U undo the bolts from sump and head) get a can of spray-on gasket and clean the held-in gaskets carefully but thoroughly before re-assembly.
while the cover's off, you may as well change the front seal.
