It will never work out cheaper than a sportivo. One of the joys of modding a car is all those hidden expenses that you never factored in at the beginning, not to mention the expense of repairing things that break, due to not being designed for the extra power. If you are going to start comparing it to the cost of a sportivo, what abut all the other different things beside the engine that the sporty has over a conquest.
For example:-
ABS
Climate control
6 stacker
leather interior
power everything
body kit
sport suspension
16 inch alloy wheels
6 speed gearbox
and its been engineeered to handle its 140kw. eg the gearbox, clutch, driveshafts etc are up to the job.
Would your conquest still be cheaper than a sporty if you add these as well? Have you thought about other lings you would probably need to upgrade as well like a heavier duty clutch, exhaust, suspension to handle the extra power? Fuel pump? Then there is the fact that with 10:1 compression and 7.5 psi it may work for a while but how long do you think the engine will last? 6 months? a year? You would need a strict diet of ron 98 and spot on tuning. I still think it would have a good chance of pinging.
You would be better off in the long run trading it for a sportivo. You would have the better performance out of the box, with no mods and is a better platform to build on later if you still have the need for more power.
Don't get me wrong, the 1zz corolla is a great little car, my wife has a conquest, but it seems pointless spending big bucks modding one when there is a higher model with 40% more power.
Its like the ricers who do up 1.5L lancers when there is a 1.8L model, crazy stuff.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose to do.
