Les, take a photo of something at 45 degrees. Make sure there's lots of contrast between the object and the background.

You should be able to see more artefacts in the normal compression one.

FWIW, normal is fine for taking photos. It's only if you're anal about image quality (like me) or you're gonna do some graphics work with the photos that you'll want to use fine.

They correspond to the JPEG quality, ie: 75% or 95%...
