I got my frontcut from Rollin imports at the Gold Coast, $2400 for the AE111 blacktop 5-speed cut with superstut brakes. When I rang around the AE101 silvertop cuts were about the $1800 mark from STZ with at least 100,000K's on them, there's another importer out around Capalaba who aren't too shabby with their prices. Phone around and the go and physically check the cuts, remember the silvertop was available in 1991 in japan so you could be purchasing a 12 year old motor, and it's not unheard of for the instrument clusters to be missing/swapped from the high K cuts... the year will be stamped on the spark plug leads if you want to know how old the cut is...
I wouldn't do the conversion without a frontcut, it makes life a lot easier for the DIY'er and you can use stuff like the front brakes etc from the cut aswell.
I've upgraded to SX rear discs on the hatch I've just done, and it's getting the twin piston superstrut front brakes aswell, the same as my GZE sedan.
I'll be getting a mod plate for the conversion after the car is sprayed (paint is a shocker on this one), the 20V was not originally available in the AE92 chassis so it needs a mod plate. You dont have to get one if you dont feel like it, but I prefer minimal hassels with the authorities.
Here's the silvertop swap I did in my brothers old car which that article was about...
