As Grant said, if you are using the half-cut tacho and it's not working you must have wired it incorrectly. I've done exactly the same conversion to mine, and although the jza and ma tacho drives look identical, there is a little board on them that has different components. We swapped this over on mine, and used the Ma70 tacho/needle combo with jza backing plate to keep it looking stock.
