 cylinders full of oil!!! PLEASE HELP!

hey guys,
i've had a hesitation problem for a while in my ae82 twincam..where when i went to change gears the car just half dies it feels almost like complete power cut for a split second and then it goes again.
this only happened sometimes--on complete flatstick gearchanges it was fine, and when i was driving like a pensioner (giving it a second between gears) it was fine too, but in between these two, it jolted like a bitch.
i pulled out my sparkplugs today, and the tips were absolutely DRENCHED in oil. oil was, like, dripping off em when i pulled them out. i looked into the cylinders, and i could see heaps of oil down there also.
the thing is, that the car never blew any blue smoke (not under acceleration, or after long idling periods...and i'd checked the compression not that long ago and it was fine), only a bit of black smoke, cos its running mega rich at the mo. but when i cleaned the plugs and put them back in and started her up it blew an absolute shiteload of smoke.
could this be the reason for the hesitation? that the tips of the plugs are getting fouled with oil? and if so, WHERE IS THIS OIL COMING FROM? and WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX IT? and before you say it...no, i didnt overfill the oil.
please help me!!!!!!!!!!!
