wiring new gauges... Sun, 21 December 2003 08:54 Go to previous message
as some of you may know, i'm changing my TA22 fuel gauge, temp gauge, idiot light and charge light for some autometer gauges

so i neatly wire in and heatshrink my wiring as you do.

put the dash in start screwing it in and think, better test it just in case.

well the fuel gauge didn't work at all, the oil pressure went off to about 150psi and my 4AGE was running at well over 250 degrees F.

so i think strange. the fuel gauge worked before when it was in another place.

checked voltage at back of gauges - 2.94v on the +12v....WTF?

tried different places for +12v - same shit.

tried different ground - same shit.

lastly i removed each gauge and one at a time hooked it up to a constant +12v. works FINE.

i'm thinking it HAS to be something with my wiring. being the following :

the first gauge +12v post leads to the next and to the next and to the next and then off to source of the +12v. the same for the -12v - post to post to post to post to source of -12v.

i've wired lots of shit in my life but never come up across this before. any ideas? the gauges are OK when wired seperately no issues there. but is it coz i wired them like in parralel(sp) when they should have been something different from what i did which was :

+12v source---+12v fuel---+12v oil---+12v water---+12v AFR

thoughts/helps/comments/flames - all welcome. remember i'm not an electronics expert.
