Fri, 26 December 2003 09:00 I havent had much experience with toyota turbos but I can tell you what I do to check the ones I work on. Generally speaking an impellor(intake) or turbine(exhaust) wheel failure is caused from a failing thrust washer, it is a pretty simple job to check. Remove the intake from the turbos and try to move the wheel back and forth, prolly about .003" end float is plenty. Do not be to concerned about up and down movement as the shaft floats on oil. If you can get the wheel to touch the housing at all it is a good sign that it is stuffed. Hope this helps. [Report message to a moderator]
