If it is like the 2JZ, you have to loosen the timing belt, and remove the timing belt tensioner too.

| Get young Edward to get you some nice 50 mL catheter tip syringes. When the engine is cold, use some turps to wash out the deep valley. Pay particular attention to the recesses where the spark plugs are - all manner of crap lurks there. The syringes can be used to squirt stuff out of there and then you can suck it out. Dry with paper towels or rags.
