Did the 1G have electric thermos or clutch fan? I don't know the 1G well, but the 4AGE from the AE82 corolla has electric thermo fans standard, so has a sensor in the remote thermostat for this.

So you could get a switch from a 4age fwd corolla.. I'm sure there is heaps of other cars that have this switch also, but then I figure most newer ones the ECU would switch the fan on.

the 1G i've got had thermo fans - and the wiring diagram i've got has no switching of fans - so maybe i've got a suitable temp switch out in the garage (and also slaps self in back of head for not thinking of this earlier)?
otherwise (and as i'm on holidays) it's off the wreckers wheneveriwantto
