steve.... you will find the following actually:
8821* - first model 9.7:1 pistons, small port head, big cams
8823* - similar top above, small improvements in strength (not power)
88250 - 8.7:1 pistons, bigger ports, 45/37mm valves, wussier cams
88253 - 8.7:1 pistons, bigger ports again, 45/39mm valves, same cams as 88250
88270 - EFI head, 8.3:1 pistons, same head as 88253, wussier again cams
