If you only want to spend $500 - $700 i would get rid of the 4k and go out and buy a 5k or a 7k if you can get your hands on one. I had a 4k with bigger cam twin Toyota down drought carbies,10:1 compression, extractors and 2" exhaust in my KE15 corolla. That motor died so i bought a stock 5k and just put it in with the carbies and exhaust and it had a lot more power and torque. I have also had a down drought weber on a 5k in a KE10 with standard manifold and 1-3/4" exhaust and that also had a lot more power then the old mild 4k. With the diff just take it out and weld it up, it will be a lot stronger!!! It might be a bit hard to drive around car parks but a lot of fun to drive in the wet and it will help the little corolla drift if that is your thing. If you have a few tools and a service manual have a go your self it will be the only way to learn and if you get stuck someone will be able to help you out.
