there are differences between auto and manual engine ECU's - from my reading, the gearbox ecu can:
tell the engine ECU to modify timing during gearshifts,
probably modify engine behaviour if overdrive (torque lockup) engaged,
tell the engine to run in 'limp home' mode if gearbox sensors (particularly speed) not all hooked up,
there's two speed sensors on the A340e gearbox that i have, ons is used by the gearbox ecu, the other went to the (not used) digital speedo,
cruise control would only add to this complication.
fwiw: if i put my 1G into the RA40, it will be with megasquirt EFI (i butchered the loom upon removal) and either a W58 manual, or a A340e with a sequential shift kit (not using factory gearboxECU).
btw: there's a few previous discussions about 1G ECUs if you search for them. also ddeane and sideshow seem to know heaps about wiring...
