st 162 sx 86 celica with the 3sge. just parked it then shut it off and all i can hear is boiling, put my hand on the hood and i could feel the vibrations!!!! popped the hood to have a listen and a look, cant see any coolant (but i can smell it like its dropped the whole lot) no steam, whats going on???? <snip rest>

could be the radiator cap venting excess pressure into the overflow bottle - so you can smell the hot fluid from the breather on the bottle, but the bottle keeps the fluid - it should be sucked back into the radiator when the beast cools down.
but ... if it's continually venting excess pressure, or venting at a lower-than-usual tempt, then it's time to:
flush/clean the cooling system
replace the radiator cap
charles.
