so your temp guage was fine huh?
bizzaro. I had the problem, and it was the wiring for the thermo fans (take the little plug off theback of the thermostat and ground it with the ignition "on".. .the fans should turn on.
and then I found out that my thermostat was opening late and my water pump was leaking.. ahhh  but that was all ages ago, and my temp guage was showing me that I was overheating too.. so different problem I guess.
the radiator cap solution sounds like a good one. it would make sense.. boiling without overheating..
that's all I can think of
