yeah.. makes a lot of sense.
Nothing tops the value for money of a pre modded sprinter.
But you have to agree, a lot of the 4age sprinters have been driven hard. This increases their chance of wear and also, the likelyhood of some enthusiastic drifter having crashed and repairing car (as the absolute majority don't have LSD).
I remembered buying one once. The car was pretty clean, nice paint and all. Only problem was that it had a bent controller arm. I thought, alright, just get that repaired. Got it repaired, still had bad geometry, still a lot of scraping. Got the entire strut, shocks springs, and controller arm replaced. Still had the problems. Spent literally hundreds getting it checked out buy specialists. Still no avail. Ending up scrapping the car. It was a chassis problem.
As a runabout, cars like these are good. But for a sprinter that is totally clean as, and nicely restored, I think it's better if you start from a stock one (1 granny owner history preferably) and administer all mods yourself.
That way you've got piece of mind. Sure it'll cost heaps more tho.
