I installed some Pioneer speakers into my car 2 weeks back, similar problem, the existing speakers were installed pretty shoddily, so I pulled all the old wiring through and pulled through all my nice new wire. Went to start my car, it didn't start  Turns out that the wiring was so tight(the cables were only only long enough) ended up pulling the plug on my fuel pump  took about 30 mins to figure that out finding all the wires that fell down behind things, also had a bad earth, what i planned to take an hour took a few more, but I sorted out all sorts of niggling problems, car runs sweet now. So it was the best speaker installation ever  Sorry doesn't really help you, but I thought it was kinda on topic, beware before you pull your wires through!
