that is ridiculous... well a little exxy.. all depends on how bad it is.

a simple hg change shouldn't cost that much

the head will likely need to be taken to a head shop and be cleaned up.

we did my mates 4age rolla the other day.. took quite a long time, but wasn't hard.

We put a new water pump in and stuff and got the head cleaned up and machined.

I think the parts ended up costing like $1000 everything included as well sa some tools we had to get.
