Will get back to you on engine bay dimensions but critical factors at this point are engine access (engine cover limits access to RHS of engine so assume ready access to LHS and top only. 18RG carbs on rhs would be very hard to fiddle with I would think). Fuel tank on RHS hence exhaust must be on LHS as is Y series. The bigger Hiace was available with 18R,22R,3&4Y,2C OHC diesel, the liteace was also avail with the C series diesel and the 4K OHV. Have seen pic of a Nissan sr20 engine in liteace on meggala.com site but no details on build yet. My van is the YM21V model, no rear seats. I want to hang on to standard 5 speed because to change this makes the whole job much more tricky so would prefer to stick with Toyota engines unless an adapter is available, at this point I don't know which motors will bolt to this gearbox. I'm not considering anything other than inline fours, most fours would fit but a six would need to extend too far forward plus this vehicle is already very nose heavy. The easy option is to get a 2.2 litre 4Y and improve carb, cam and fit extractors can't know if this would be adequate though. My sentimental favourite is a turbo on the standard 1.8 litre 2Y but I doubt anyone has ever done this so I'm wondering if I could rip a turbo off a Japanese motor and hook it up with a suck through carb???. I'm also worried about trying to adapt EFI to this vehicle though I realise a more modern motor would almost certainly have this.
