Hi
Well just after the recent queensland cruise i blew my headgasket. Now this is the second head gasket i have replaced and the first that has had problems with.

The car when cold has a bad miss up through the rev range and the car will backfire out of the carby. when warmed up at idle the car has a lumpy idle and is perfectally smooth just past idle 1200 revs ish right up until 49-5200 revs where it seems to not rev any futher. (like a rev limiter in an efi car).

sound very much like ignition timing is way out (and possibly cam timing tho it should manifest itself regardless of temp).

but it's worth your while checking and gapping all the plugs? or replace them?

I can see that the spark is arcing across at the coil was going through the coil to the pos side of the coil. now the coil is replaced it still goes to the pos side but through the rubber from the lead.

is the earth strap from chassis to engine (drivers side) still attached? battery - terminal should connect to chassis next to battery, so for engine to get an earth for spark - it needs the strap between engene & chassis (there's another at rear of gearbox).

also - how old are the plug leads? might be time to replace them - if only to deal with the damage caused by arcing thru the insulation.

also could i have a manafold leak? would this cause my symptons?

possibly, tho this manifests itself as piss poor performance, usually when the secondary throttle opens up the engine gets way too much air and stumbles...

and i noticed when i got the manifold gasket there was no separation between the exhaust ports 2 and 3 on the gasket could this be the problem? (the car has extractors)

there should be separation between the two ports.

if you have to pull the head off again, get another gasket from autobahn (i got one recently for$15 - Pro-Torque, part JC371)

charles.
